How can a child of a citizen of Latvia born abroad be registered as a citizen of Latvia and what are the requirements for registration of the child?

In order to register a child as a citizen of Latvia, you shall:
- send an application to the Office;
- attach a certificate of birth of the child or certified copy thereof;
- attach non-certified copies of the personal identification documents of the parents and a copy of a personal identification document of the child (if any is issued for the child).

Important to know:
- A parent of the child shall sent the application and documents for registration of the child electronically to pskn@pmlp.gov.lv signed with a safe electronic signature or via mail to Čiekurkalna 1. līnija 1, korp. 3, Riga, LV-1026, Latvia;
- The application may be signed by the legal representative of the child only - a mother, a father or a guardian;
- Registration of the child as a citizen of Latvia is free of charge.
