Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund Emergency Financial Instrument Project No. HOME/2021/AMIF/AG/EMAS/TF1/LV/0003 "Addressing urgent accommodation and humanitarian needs arising from the increased number of asylum seekers in Latvia”
The purpose of the project: to create an accommodation center for asylum seekers (hereinafter - ACAS) in Liepna, Alūksne county.
Project implementation period: 01.03.2022. – 31.12.2023
The project is implemented by: the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Latvia in cooperation with the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, the Provision State Agency and the International Organization for Migration.
Project budget:
The total budget – 2 480 572 EUR
Co-financing of the Foundation – 2 232 515 EUR
State budget co-financing – 248 057 EUR
Results achieved in the project:
- established ACAS in Liepna, Alūksne district. ACAS can accommodate up to 250 asylum seekers;
- significant technical improvements have been made to the building – the roof covering has been replaced, the heating system has been renewed, a fence has been built, electrical installation and water supply systems have been renewed, a fire detection and alarm system has been built, the kitchen and sanitary facilities (showers, toilets) have been renovated, the cosmetic repairs of the premises have been carried out;
- equipped ACAS premises – furniture for accommodation of asylum seekers was purchased (beds, chairs, wardrobes, etc.), a dining hall, a laundry room, a rest area was created, - available computers, various leisure opportunities – table tennis, novus, etc.;
- ACAS is provided with 24/7 security;
- GP consultations are available for asylum seekers in ACAS;
- ACAS hired 18 employees – Head of ACAS, accommodation experts, technical staff, driver and senior experts;
- ACAS started to accomodate asylum seekers at the end of August 2023. 279 persons were accommodated in ACAS Liepna from August till the end of the project, 31.12.2023.
