Currently, 306,345* people with a non-citizen's passport live in Latvia. Of these, 209 007 are non-citizens of Latvia, 97,178 are citizens of another country and 160 are stateless.
The number of persons who have acquired citizenship through naturalization has decreased in the last decade, but the interest of third-country nationals in Latvian citizenship has increased.
For several years, the Office has been organizing information days in the largest cities of Latvia - Riga, Daugavpils, Liepaja and Ventspils, where applicants for citizenship can learn more about issues related to naturalization.
Furthermore, at information days, we offer to test your knowledge and try out the Latvian language and other tests in the naturalization examination.
- Find out more about naturalization information days HERE.
- Get acquainted with the samples of naturalization tests HERE.
Test your abilities!
Currently, within the framework of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund project “Improvement and development of information systems and related processes supporting naturalization”, the most complete and up-to-date interactive self-assessment electronic tool is being developed. This will include:
- Latvian language proficiency test tasks;
- Verification of the text of the national anthem;
- Basic provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia and
- Test questions on the basics of history and culture of Latvia.
With the help of the new e-tool, everyone will be able to try naturalization tests at home.
We very much hope that this will reduce the anxiety of citizenship applicants and encourage more and more people to acquire Latvian citizenship through naturalization!
