According to Section 17(1) of the Personal Identification Documents Law, a warning or a fine of up to seven units of fine* (35 EUR) shall be imposed for living without a valid personal identification document to persons who must have a personal identification document.

According to Section 17(2) of the Personal Identification Documents Law, a warning or a fine of up to seven units of fine* (35 EUR) shall be imposed for damaging a personal identification document or making unlawful notes, or changes in the initial content.

According to Section 17(3) of the Personal Identification Documents Law, a warning or a fine of up to seven units of fine* (35 EUR) shall be imposed for the failure to hand over an invalid personal identification document at the moment of obtaining a new personal identification document.

According to Section 17(4) of the Personal Identification Documents Law, a warning or a fine of up to fourteen units of fine* (70 EUR) shall be imposed for the loss of a personal identification document.

According to Section 17(5) of the Personal Identification Documents Law, a fine in the amount from three units of fine (15 EUR) to thirty units of fine* (150 EUR) shall be imposed for the failure to submit an invalid personal identification document after the legal status has been changed, after a decision has been taken by the Minister of the Interior on the prohibition for the holder of a personal identification document to leave the Republic of Latvia, or for the failure to hand over a personal identification document of a person who is younger than 14 years of age after the status of legal representative has been lost.

According to Section 17(6) of the Personal Identification Documents Law, a fine in the amount from three (15 EUR) to thirty units of fine* (150 EUR) shall be imposed to natural persons, while a fine in the amount from three (15 EUR) to one hundred units of fine* (500 EUR) shall be imposed to legal persons, for removal of a personal identification document, giving or taking it as a pawn.

According to Section 50(2) of the Law on the Management of the Spread of COVID-19 Infection, for the failure to submit a temporary identity card to the issuing institution within the time limit specified in this Law, a warning or a fine of up to seven units of fine* shall be imposed.
