Project No. PMLP/PMIF/2016/1 of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund for the period 2014-2020 “"Support measures for reception and accommodation of persons in need of international protection in Latvia (1st phase)".
Project goal: to raise the standards of reception of asylum seekers at the Asylum Seekers Centre and strengthen the capacity of the asylum procedure.
Project implementation period: 01.01.2016– 31.12.2017
Project implemented by: the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) in cooperation with State Agency for Provision (PSA) and Ropazi Municipality.
Project budget: Financing from the Fund 100% - 1 417 984 EUR
Results achieved in the project:
- Provided support to asylum seekers - necessary translation services, medical assistance, distribution of food and hygiene kits, distribution of public transport tickets in Riga, and other forms of material assistance;
- Ensured availability of information on asylum procedures and accommodation issues; developed informational material “Guide for asylum seekers in Latvia“;
- Provided appropriately prepared rooms and common areas for residents of the Asylum Seekers' Acommodation Centre (ASAC);
- ASAC has established a medical office;
- Increased the number of ASAC accommodations to 352
- ASAC building - renovation, reconstruction, and refurbishment;
- Enhanced qualification of OCMA employees related to asylum issue resolution and development of legal regulations in the asylum field.
- A kindergarden branch has been established and operated at ASAC.
