The interest on the acquisition of the foreigner’s eID card is increasing even more. However, it is not always clear in what cases it is necessary.
For convenience of the customers of the Office we compare three types of personal identity cards: foreigner’s eID card, eID card of the citizen or non-citizen of Latvia and residence permit.

Foreigner’s eID card is provided for foreigners , who permanently do not stay in Latvia and mostly settle their transactions in the electronic environment, and wish:

Is a mandatory personal identity document for a citizen or non-citizen of Latvia, who has attained the age of 15 years. | A foreigner, who wants to stay in Latvia for longer than 90 days within half-a-year, counting as of the first day of entry, if the Immigration Law provides for a relevant ground to receive a residence permit. |

Documents to be submitted in order to receive it |
A foreigner should be registered with the Register of Natural Persons. When arranging a foreigner’s eID card, a personal identity document of his/her come country/country of citizenship should be presented. The asylum seeker should present a personal identity document of the asylum seeker. |
The previous passport or eID card, if any has been, should be submitted or presented. |
