Receiving visa

Services as applying for a visa or visa extension are available by submitting documents by post.

• Prior to entry into Latvia a visa shall be obtained at Latvian consular missions in foreign countries or at the consulates of other Schengen Member States which is competent to process Schengen visa application for travelling to Latvia. If the purpose of entry is employment, visa may be requested only at the embassy or consulate of Latvia.
• In cases justified by the interests of Latvian state, force majeure or humanitarian considerations foreigners can apply for single-entry individual transit visas and short-term visas at the state border control points of the Republic of Latvia.
• Foreigners can extend the period of stay in Latvia only in certain exceptional cases.
  • Documents for the extension of a Schengen visa can be submitted by sending them by post to the Migration Division or to the Daugavpils, Jurmala, Liepāja, Valmiera or Ventspils division.
  • Documents for the receipt of a long-term visa can be submitted by sending them to the Migration Division or any customer service division outside Riga:
    • by post;
    • signed with the foreigner's secure electronic signature to e-mail;
    • signed with the foreigner's secure electronic signature to the official electronic address on the portal Latvija.gov.lv.
• Airport transit visas are issued only at the Republic of Latvia diplomatic or consular representative offices abroad!

• a valid travel document;
• an online application form filled out and signed;
• a photograph;
• Documents certifying that the foreigner has the necessary financial means;
• a copy of a document confirming that the applicant has adequate and valid travel medical insurance policy;
• documents, including  the purpose of the journey and documents in relation to accommodation;
• documents indicating that a letter of invitation has been approved by the OCMA (the invitation is valid for 6 months from the date of approval);
• a receipt confirming the fee payment.

When applying for a Schengen visa, the applicant shall present information enabling an assessment of the applicant`s intention to leave the territory of the Member States before the expiry of the visa applied for.

When lodging the application, the applicant shall allow the collection of his fingerprints in accordance with Article 13 of the Visa Code, where applicable.
