Summer has just begun, but you can already start thinking about the next academic year and the necessary documents to obtain a residence permit to study.
What documents do you need to submit?
- You should present a valid travel document recognised in the Republic of Latvia;
- You should submit the following documents:
- a questionnaire of a certain specimen for requesting of a residence permit;
- a photograph;
- a document certifying the necessary means of subsistence;
- a payment document confirming payment of a stamp duty;
Prior to submitting the documents the person who invited you must confirm the invitation to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs.
If you are planning to attend an accredited educational institution or university, you should also submit:
- contract on studies in the Republic of Latvia.
However, if you are planning to attend a general educational institution, you should submit:
- an attestation or statement of the educational institution regarding the studies indicating the expected duration of the studies is indicated;
- If you are under 18 years old, you should submit a notarised document signed before an official of the Office or representative offices, which indicates the person who assumes responsibility for the minor student during his or her stay in the Republic of Latvia.
If your spouse or your minor child enters with you, they must additionally submit the documents certifying kinship and a notarised permit to stay in Latvia signed by the parent who does not enter with the child before an official of the Office or a representative office.
How can you submit the documents?
If you are a foreigner or his/her family member and you are in Latvia, then it is possible to submit the documents for requesting a residence permit in the following ways:
- electronically, confirming each document with a secure electronic signature;
- send by post as an ordinary, non-registered item, presenting in the application documents their e-mail address and telephone number for communication.
However, if you stay outside of Latvia, you can submit the documents for requesting a first-time residence permit to the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia abroad.
If the aim of the stay is related to obtaining an education in Latvia and the foreigner is not in Latvia, the documents to the Office can also be submitted by an authorised representative of the educational institution.
