Today, on November 29th, experts from the European Migration Network (EMN)1 Latvia Contact Point are participating in the first Democracy Festival in Preiļi, organized by the European Commission, with more than 200 young people and educators in attendance.
During the festival, EMN experts will provide an important overview of the relationship between migration and human rights, highlighting their significance both in the context of Latvia and the European Union.
Throughout the event, young people will have the opportunity to participate in the interactive game "Destination: Europe"2 which will allow them to explore the migration process and understand how various decisions and circumstances can affect the lives of migrants.
In the game “Destination: Europe”, each player can take on different decision-maker roles and observe how each step impacts migrants and society as a whole. During the game, participants will experience various roles at the European Union, national, and local levels, gaining insight into migration scenarios. Level 3 of the game, “Migrants in Your City,” will provide participants with an experience that reveals the challenges migrants face when entering new regions and seeking a new life. This interactive experience will help participants better understand the migrant situation, fostering empathy and awareness of human rights protection.
This event is an excellent opportunity for young people to gain practical knowledge about human rights, migration, and their importance in society, as well as to develop an understanding of how we can all contribute to creating a safe and just environment for all people, regardless of their origin or status.
