Earlier this month, at the annual HSP EMEA (High Security Printing Europe, the Middle East and Africa) conference in Sofia, Bulgaria, organised by the consulting company Reconnaissance, where ID documents introduced in the last year were evaluated, the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (hereinafter referred to as the Office) received a high international award for its ID document – the new model passport.
An international jury of experts and industry professionals judged the identity document – the passport – in several categories: the graphic design of the document, the design of the document in relation to security features, and the innovations included in the passport.
The Office received the award in the "Best New Regional Passport 2024" category. The award was given to Latvia's new passport for its excellent document design, combined with outstanding security features and innovative anti-counterfeiting solutions that meet the highest security requirements for state-of-the-art documents.
"We are very proud and pleased that the Latvian passport has been recognised as the best new passport in the region. A lot of careful work has been put into the development of the passport to ensure that the document meets the highest security requirements and that its design reflects the beautiful nature of Latvia," says Maira Roze, Head of the Office.
The new passport includes security features such as UV printing on the data sheet and on the first page, a holographic strip, visa pages with coloured UV printing, an optically variable ink function printed as an oak leaf that appears in different colours, etc. New security features are also included: a vivid photo colour and an image of the passport holder, supplemented with personal data, with the passport holder's portrait engraved in a transparent window, and the use of multi-coloured holographic elements.
"The received award is an international confirmation of the high security standards of the new passport and their harmonious implementation in the passport design," says Ēriks Vismanis, Head of Development of ID Documents and Related Technological Solutions at the Office.
