On Tuesday, August 31, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the candidacy nominated by the Minister of the Interior Marija Golubeva for the position of the Head of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (hereinafter the Office) - Maira Roze.
On August 17, by mutual agreement with the management of the Ministry of the Interior, Vilnis Jēkabsons, the current head of the Office, resigned from his position. Shortly Maira Roze, the current acting head, will be appointed the head of the Office.
"The most important priority at the moment is, in cooperation with all competent authorities, to successfully address the asylum issues under the responsibility of the Office - accommodation and care of asylum seekers, as well as review of asylum cases within the legal deadlines," emphasizes Maira Roze.
The head of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs is appointed by the Minister of the Interior for a term of five years after the relevant candidature has been approved by the Cabinet.
