On August 13, in Mucenieki, Ropaži Municipality, and on August 16 Liepna, Alūksne Municipality, respectively, the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (hereinafter – the OCMA) organised integrating and educational events involving asylum seekers and local inhabitants of asylum seekers' accommodation centres.
The events included friendly sports games and a joint bread-baking activity. The tradition of baking bread is universal and inspires people from all walks of life and backgrounds to come together.
"The quickest and fullest possible understanding of the Latvian State and its people, as well as a responsible and responsive attitude towards the requirements set out in the law, ensures more successful cooperation during the examination of asylum applications, and joint activities contribute to a greater understanding of the conditions and customs that must be observed in Latvia," says Maira Roze, Head of the OCMA.
The events in Mucenieki and Liepna were part of the information campaign "Humanity. Response. Responsibility”. The aim of the campaign is to raise public awareness about the asylum process in Latvia, as well as to educate asylum seekers about their obligations and rights during the asylum procedure.
